TAN-DELTA

TAN-DELTA

Introduction:

The TDX 5000 is a high-performance test system designed to measure Tan Delta (Dissipation Factor) and capacitance of transformers and a wide range of MV and EHV electrical apparatus, from 13.8 kV to more than 500 kV. Measurements can be performed at power frequency or across a wide frequency range, providing reliable diagnostic information for insulation assessment.

With the RTD option, the TDX 5000 can also perform transformer turns-ratio measurements under high-voltage conditions using patented measurement technology.

The TDX 5000 measurement circuitry incorporates a patented 200 pF reference high-voltage capacitor with a Tan Delta better than 0.005%, as well as a precision reference resistor bridge with accuracy better than 0.01% and thermal drift of less than 1 ppm/°C. Before each test, the instrument automatically checks and calibrates itself using the internal reference capacitor. The patented measurement circuitry, combined with the variable-frequency output, provides high immunity to external electrical noise and ensures accurate and repeatable test results.

The TDX 5000 supports a comprehensive range of test configurations, including ungrounded tests such as UST-A, UST-B, and UST A+B, as well as grounded tests such as GST, GSTg-A, GSTg-B, and GSTg-A+B.

The TDX 5000 is powered by an internal, electronically controlled high-voltage generator. The instrument must be properly grounded during operation. If the ground connection is interrupted during a test, high-voltage generation stops automatically, providing an additional level of operational safety. The TDX 5000 can also be powered by a portable generator without compromising its performance.

The STS family includes three models: STS 5000, STS 4000, and TDX 5000. The TDX 5000 has been developed as a compact solution for high-voltage capacitance and Tan Delta (Dissipation Factor) measurements on Current Transformers (CT), Voltage Transformers (VT), Potential Transformers (PT), bushings, transformers, and other MV and EHV apparatus. With the optional reactor, the TDX 5000 can also perform tests on rotating machines, including motors and generators.

In local control mode, the selected output voltage can be adjusted and monitored on the large graphic LCD display. The control knob and intuitive menu system provide easy access to numerous functions, making the TDX 5000 a powerful testing device with both manual and automatic testing capabilities. Test results can be transferred to a PC via Ethernet or Pen Drive. Remote maintenance and diagnostics of the instrument are also available through Ethernet.

The TDX 5000 incorporates detection of the digital signal from the RTCD Compensating Reactor option. The instrument is housed in a robust and transportable aluminium case equipped with a protective cover and carrying handles for convenient transportation. A transport trolley is also available as an optional accessory.

The TDMS (Test & Data Management Software) suite is supplied with the test set and provides comprehensive tools for downloading, displaying, analysing, managing, and documenting test results obtained in local mode. Electrical apparatus information and test results are automatically stored in the TDMS database, allowing users to maintain historical records and perform comparative analysis for acceptance and maintenance testing.

The TDMS database organizes test data and results for a wide range of electrical apparatus tested using compatible ISA test sets and related software. Each test record can include information about the apparatus under test, location, references, operator, date and time, ambient conditions, measurement results, and graphs. Test data can be exported into various electronic formats, including XLSX (Excel), CSV, DOC, RPT, PDF, JPEG, and XML.

PADS (Power Apparatus Diagnostic Software) is a powerful software application included in the TDMS software suite that optionally provides remote control of the STS family, including the STS 5000, STS 4000, and TDX 5000. The software enables users to remotely control the TDX 5000 from a PC, create test plans, download stored test results via Ethernet, create and customize test reports, and print test results.

The PADS software operates in a Windows® environment. Windows® is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation.

Overall, the TDX 5000 combines high-voltage testing capability, precision measurement, advanced noise immunity, automatic calibration, flexible test configurations, remote operation, and comprehensive data-management functionality in a compact and portable solution. It is suitable for acceptance testing, commissioning, condition assessment, and maintenance diagnostics of transformers and high-voltage electrical apparatus.
