Introduction:
The SONEL TDR-420 is a compact and versatile digital Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR), designed to characterize and locate faults in power and telecommunications cables with metallic conductors. It can measure cable length and determine the distance to faults, damage or impedance changes over a range up to 6km. With a minimum measuring range of 7 m and a dead zone of just 0.6 m, the TDR-420 enables users to locate faults even at very short distances from the point where the instrument is connected. The TDR-420 stands out for its long measuring range of up to 6,000 m, measurement accuracy of approximately 1% and the ability to adjust both the velocity of propagation (VOP) and the characteristic impedance of the cable under test. The instrument features two cursors, allowing users to accurately determine the distance to two separate faults as well as the distance between them. To simplify fault identification, the TDR-420 includes a built-in help function that assists users in interpreting measurement results. By comparing the displayed reflectogram with typical fault patterns, users can quickly identify the type of anomaly present in the cable section being tested.
Designed to perform reliably in demanding field conditions, the TDR-420 features a robust enclosure with an IP67 ingress protection rating, making it resistant to dust and water. The durable elastomer-coated housing provides a secure, non-slip grip while offering additional protection against accidental drops and impacts.
Combining accurate fault location, extended measurement range, intuitive operation and rugged construction, the SONEL TDR-420 is a practical solution for testing, diagnosing and maintaining power and telecommunications cable networks.
