LEAKAGE CURRENT MONITOR

LEAKAGE CURRENT MONITOR

Introduction:

A surge arrester may be relatively inexpensive, but it plays a critical role in protecting valuable transformers and other high-voltage equipment. Ensuring that surge arresters remain in good condition is therefore essential for maintaining system reliability and minimizing the risk of failure. The Doble LCM500 Leakage Current Monitor enables utilities and maintenance teams to assess the condition of metal oxide surge arresters while they remain in service. By measuring leakage current, the LCM500 helps evaluate the condition of the metal oxide blocks, identify changes over time, and manage the risk of arrester failure. With the LCM500 surge arrester test set, field personnel can establish the condition of a surge arrester in less than 15 minutes, helping confirm that the arrester is healthy and the transformer remains adequately protected. The LCM500 is designed specifically for condition trending of metal oxide surge arresters. Before an inspection, arrester identification data can be downloaded from the PC software to the LCM500 instrument. The instrument can store up to 1,000 arrester IDs, allowing technicians to efficiently manage inspections across multiple locations. During field inspection, the technician selects the appropriate arrester ID on the LCM500 and performs the measurement. Once the field measurements are complete, the stored data can be transferred back to the PC software for detailed analysis and condition trending. The resulting information enables maintenance teams to monitor arrester performance over time, identify potential deterioration at an early stage, and plan future inspections and maintenance activities more effectively.

Doble LCM500 — fast, reliable in-service assessment for proactive surge arrester condition monitoring and transformer protection.

LCM Technique:

Well-proven and acknowledged monitoring technique using third-order harmonic analysis with compensation. Rated according IEC 60099-5 as the best fi eld monitoring technique for Metal Oxide Surge Arresters (MOSA). LCM500 measurements are automatically normalized to standard ambient temperature (+20°C) and 0.7x rated arrester voltage based on recorded temperature and operating voltage during fi eld measurement. Measurements performed under different conditions can thereby easily be compared.

Features:

  • Portable, battery-operated instrument designed for regular condition assessment of surge arresters.
  • Unique identification of each surge arrester enables efficient and reliable data management.
  • Stores up to 1,000 surge arrester IDs along with measurements performed in the field.
  • Allows individual surge arrester types to be defined, including their specific operational parameters.
  • Integrated software enables evaluation and trending of groups of surge arresters, such as arresters of the same type or those installed within a specific region.

Application:

Doble leakage current monitors are designed for condition assessment and trending of all types of metal-oxide surge arresters installed on insulated bases with a separate grounding-system conductor. They provide a practical and reliable solution for monitoring arrester condition and identifying changes in performance over time.
