A Static Var Generator (SVG) panel is an advanced power electronics-based reactive power compensation system that uses IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) technology to provide instantaneous, stepless, and bidirectional reactive power correction. Unlike capacitor bank-based systems, an SVG can supply both leading and lagging reactive power continuously and responds in under 5 milliseconds to load changes, making it highly effective for rapidly fluctuating and sensitive loads. It significantly improves power factor, reduces voltage fluctuations, and minimises flicker — all without the inrush currents or mechanical wear associated with contactor or thyristor switching systems.
